free coworking space  [Closed]

Post by Ihenning » Tue Aug 18, 2015 8:40 am

Hi! I am looking for a free coworking space in Vienna. I am writing on a book right now and just need a desk, wifi and electricity, as I can't work at home (small kids :-)). I found a couple of places where you have to pay for a workspace, but I am looking for a free one. I used to live in the Netherlands and work at seats2meet (https://www.seats2meet.com/) which was absolutely perfect (you even get a free lunch!). For now I try to work at McCafe, but there are no plugs and my battaries only work for 2 hours.
Thanks for your help!

A lot of the coffee houses seem fine about people working - only problem might be finding a table straight up with a power socket.

Thanks! That is exactly my problem: no power socket. Plus it is also nice to have people around you working :-) I am happy about any ideas. Also for cheap sollutions. Most coworking spaces als 5 euro a day, which is too much for me at the moment.

I don't think that you should leave your kids at home alone for more than two hours :)

If you could do without the wifi, maybe you could try one of the Uni Wien libraries? In the small reading room (Kleiner Lesesaal) in the main university building about half of the desks have a power socket and you can bring your bag and coffee in (other uni reading rooms require you leave bags and drinks/food in a locker the key for which you need to have a library card to get). You have to have a university ID to use the wifi.

Not a perfect solution, but free. And after Septmeber 1, open from 9-22h M-F and until 18h on Saturdays.

Thanks txesba! I work at the open library now (Bücherei Wien, Hauptbücherei) and they have free wifi, power sockets and the best view! :-)

Thanks for the library tip!

I stumbled upon this website for finding coworking spaces in Vienna and worldwide. Slick UI. It's not free but if you follow the link you get a freebie welcome offer :)

Thanks for that Gregor - there was also the chance to sublet part of thelocal's office for a small amount recently - perhaps worth checking if that is still open.
Vienna is like an Ikea sofa - you know you should upgrade, but why bother when it is this comfortable.

One location for co-working - albeit not free was http://coworking-wien.at/
