The statutory public holidays for 2016 for Austria are as follows – good to consider when planning vacations – particularly to use “Fenstertage” (occasionally called Zwickeltage) to make your leave go further.

Monday 28 March – Easter Monday
Sunday 1 May – Worker’s Day, National Holiday
Thursday 5 May – Ascension
Monday 16 May – Whitsun Bank Holiday
Thursday 26 May – Corpus Christi
Monday 15 August – Ascension of Mary
Wednesday 26 October – National Holiday
Tuesday 1 November – All Souls
Thursday 8 December – Immaculate Conception
(Saturday 24 December – Christmas Eve – half day)
Sunday 25 December – Christmas Day
Monday 26 December – St. Stephens Day
(Saturday 31 December – New Year’s Eve – half day)
