Arriving in June

Post by n_lev » Sun Apr 30, 2017 6:55 pm

Hi everyone,

Probably time to properly introduce myself and the missus.

My name is Nick and my wife is Natasha, we are both in our late 30's. We are moving to Vienna in June this year. I got a job offer and we decided that it is a great chance to try and live in the most liveable city in the world (depending which rating one prefers).

I am in engineering and my wife is in finance. We do not speak German and currently it scares the hell out of us :-)

Before moving to Vienna we will have spent 2 years in Sweden (Malmo), before that 12 years in Australia (Adelaide->Melbourne->Perth->Sydney) and before that we were both born and raised in Russia. So we're a bit confused in regards to national identity bu at this stage, I'd say Australia feels like the most "home" for us.

I'm very glad I found this forum and people here have been very helpful.

Hi Nick, I'm a Brit with a Russian wife - we've been here for 18 and 22 years each and know quite a few similar couples here. The language hurdle is not too bad apart from a some of the bureaucracy - am sure you'll feel at home pretty quickly here.
Vienna is like an Ikea sofa - you know you should upgrade, but why bother when it is this comfortable.

Ah, that'd be great! As per usual, accommodation is the biggest headache, so I'd certainly appreciate it.

Hi Nick
My husband and I are moving in the summer too, from England. Similar resins to you as well. We've just started learning German too. Big adventure! Good luck.

Hi there,

What type of engineering are you in? I'm struggling to find english speaking engineering work here in vienna. I am qualified in both structural and construction engineering.

Thanks,

Cam.
