2013-06 Flooding reports

Post by _rip » Sat Jun 15, 2013 5:04 pm

Hi All,

The American press actually decided to cover European events for once, and they mentioned (in passing) that there were some high-water issues recently.

Anyway, I get my news from the Beeb.

Can I get reports on whether the following areas did see actual water in the streets?

Brigittagasse at Hartlgasse (22.) (slightly higher in elevation than the Augarten, so if the Augarten wasn't under water, neither was Brigittagasse...)
VIC (less likely, but I was asked)

Thank you!

rip

Thanks!

Hey rip,

Vienna itself did not have any serious flooding. A bit around the Donau canal (they closed the cycle path) and on the Donau Island.

A few more feet and it could have been serious however.

From what I saw on tv most of the bad stuff was along other parts of the Danube in Upper and Lower Austria.

Hope all is well in the land of the free!

Yeah, there were pictures of the Copa Kagrana and the footbridge, but that was all I could find.

I shall avoid cracking wise about my current hosts as I would normally do.

Life's good! Job, someplace to live, bills paid. Nothing more sought, really.

Yeah I forgot about the Copa Kagrana, actually most people hoped it would be entirely washed away but those little shanty huts seem to have mostly survived!

I will probably still give it a miss for Sunday brunch however.

The lower path (the one by the river) on the Insel was flooded for a few days. The Copa's been pretty much trashed (but it's never really been the same since 2004 anyway so no real loss). For a while the fire-brigade were pumping out the U4 but it kept running. I never saw the canal pathway flooded though - and I run there fairly frequently.
