The Ghost Writer / Der Ghostwriter

This is Roman Polanski's latest film, adapted from the book by Robert Harris.
It opens in Vienna today, and as far as I know it is showing only at the Haydn kino and Artis.

The plot concerns disgraced ex-PM Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan) who stands accused of war crimes. Into this cesspit gets dragged the writer hired to ghost his memoirs (Ewan McGregor). My first reaction was that this would be little more than porn for those who want to see Tony Blair rot in the Hague, but Manohla Dargis of the New York Times seems to think there's more to it than that.

I think I'll go and see it just for the direction, even if the whole is less than the sum of its parts, as she suggests.

I wasn't that impressed by the book. It has no rhythm and the characters are faceless and undeveloped. I always get the feeling like Harris' books get weaker and weaker.

Fatherland was better than
Enigma was better than
Archangel was better than
Pompeii was better than
The Ghost
