We have received advice from the Consular Department at HM British Embassy, that Britons travelling to USA are warned to check they have an e-passport, or risk being turned back. New rules requiring US visitors to have passports with a biometric strip came into force on 1 April 2016. Tour operators have urged customers to check their passports – it affects an estimated 1.3m British passports that are currently valid but not biometric. If you do not have an e-passport and wish to travel to the US, you will have to apply for a visa at US embassy or consulate.
