The plastic bag ban enters into force from 1 January 2020, with retailers no longer allowed to sell plastic bags that are non-fully biodegradable. Many supermarkets have been offering “Shoppers for life”, have changed over to paper bags or biodegradable plastic bags. In an initiative to reduce unnecessary packaging many supermarkets are now allowing people to be served in reusable containers, as well as using reusable fruit and vegetable nets.
